Små historiska fakta som kan vara intressanta i rollspel

I Made an 18th Century Smock For a Hobbit LARP
"You read that right - I made a smock! An 18th century farmer's work garment. Well, actually they were used by gardeners, carters, butchers, shepherds, basically anyone working in the country who wanted to keep their clothes clean.
Anyway, I made one! With lots of help from the ever-patient Perin, (who is @isabel.northwode or @northwode.photography on Instagram) and after a week it's wearable! I like to think this is something Samwise and Gaffer Gamgee would wear as they push their wheelbarrows around Hobbiton, sowing nasturtiums (a Tolkien favourite) or replanting the trees Saruman's men felled during the Harrowing of the Shire."
 
Att man hade svärd i svärdsskidor är välkänt. Men, det kanske inte är lika välkänt att även spjutspetsar ofta täckes över. Det fanns flera skäl:
  • Skydd mot regn/väta
  • Skydda eggen/spetsen
  • Skydda omgivningen
Detta gällde speciellt vid transport eller när man marscherade. Och att inte på något sätt skydda spjutspetsen vid regn hade varit korkat.

Dessa spjutskidor (aka spjutbaljor eller spjutholkar) kunde vara gjorda av trä, läder, näver, horn (älg- eller renhorn har förekommit på jaktspjut i våra områden) eller andra material. De kunde vara enkla (tänk läderpåse) eller snyggt dekorerade.

Det finns ett fåtal bevarade exemplar och det finns även illustrationer som visar dessa.

För rollspel innebär det att ett spjut som man reser med kan ha en skida på sig vilket gör att spjutet inte är fullt funktionellt utan förberedelse. Spjutet går visserligen att använda som en trästav och det går så klart att stöta med det även om det inte kommer att ha samma förmåga att penetrera. Dessutom så är spjutet sämre balanserat med en skida på sig.

Så, vid överfall så kan det vara så att spjutspetsarna är täckta.
