Jag vet att 80% av forumet hatar AI, men jag utgår ändå från en googling på "fantasy categories" och AI-lägets sammanställning. Då fick jag:

Main Fantasy Categories
  • High Fantasy (Epic Fantasy): Set entirely in a fictional world with its own history, geography, and often high stakes, such as The Lord of the Rings or Stormlight Archive.
  • Low Fantasy: Takes place in the real world (or a rational world) but contains magical elements, such as Harry Potter.
  • Dark Fantasy: Combines fantasy elements with horror, resulting in a dark, terrifying tone, such as The Witcher or Berserk.
  • Grimdark: A subgenre characterized by gritty, violent, and morally ambiguous content, notably A Song of Ice and Fire.
Setting-Based Categories
  • Urban Fantasy: Set in a modern city or urban environment where magic exists alongside daily life, e.g., The Dresden Files.
  • Historical Fantasy: Set in a specific, known historical period but with added magical elements, such as Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell.
  • Gaslamp/Steampunk Fantasy: Combines fantasy with Victorian-era aesthetics, technology, or gothic elements.
  • Flintlock Fantasy: Features magic within an early modern/gunpowder era setting, like The Powder Mage Trilogy.
Style and Tone Categories
  • Comic/Humorous Fantasy: Parodies or satirizes standard fantasy tropes, largely influenced by Terry Pratchett’s Discworld.
  • Sword and Sorcery: Focuses on personal, action-packed quests rather than world-threatening stakes, typically featuring a single hero, such as Conan the Barbarian.
  • Romantic Fantasy: Focuses on romantic relationships within a magical setting, commonly known as Romantasy.
Unique Structural Categories
  • Portal/Crossworlds Fantasy: Characters travel from the real world into a magical, alternate world, such as The Chronicles of Narnia.
  • Magical Realism: A realistic, modern world where magical events are treated as mundane, such as One Hundred Years of Solitude.
  • Science Fantasy: A blend of scientific technology and magical elements, such as Star Wars or The Book of the New Sun.
