Classic case of “plausible, hard to verify”. If it said the opposite and it was true, it would be noteworthy. DriveThruRPG doesn’t publish sales statistics as open data as far as I can see.
I use Pages on Mac, it does a decent job and better than Google Docs and Word IMHO. Make a nice front page (I use GIMP for image editing). Have an external editor. Follow basic layout advice (60-70 characters per line, line spacing at least 1.2), keep it simple and you will be fine.

Truth is there already exist plenty of great games inspired by Tintin (Troubleshooters), Agatha Christie (Brindlewood Bay), and likely others on the list. Slapping on 'Tintin' or 'Miss Marple' on the cover may help them sell better but will not make them better games.
