Also are Djurgården and Malmö rivals or? I am watching an old game (first of the season I think) and it was quite scrappy with fights.
 
Watched two games so far (the second being Malmö Elfsborg, again from the start of the season). A couple of general observations:

1: Passing accuracy is actually quite good. I get used to MLS and CPL which both have poor accuracy but the Swedish teams are pulling off very precise, quick passes. (Bundesliga is a difficult comparison because the high press makes passing tough, the skill is probably higher though).
Rather than bad passes, most of the lost balls seemed to be more the receiving player moving poorly.

2: Swedish teams are pretty scrappy! I usually joking that the Canadian league is goon-football from the amount of showing and grabbing that players get away with, but at least in these two matches, it was definitely a cut above with leg swipes, shoves (including dudes being pushed when they are nowhere near the ball) etc. Not sure if thats just Malmö being goons or if the league is generally this physical?

3: Interestingly, players don't get in the referees face a lot or crowd them as much. Perhaps that goes along with the point above: You know you roughed him up so take the call as it comes?

4: Im used to watching without VAR (from CPL where the stadiums cant afford it) so i tend to slightly prefer it, though it did mean a super obvious handball was not called in the Elfsborg game. Thats how these things go.

Definitely enjoyable stuff and one of the things I appreciate about football is how each league has its own vibes and feel.

Yes, they are certainly rivals. Both have been topdogs in Swedish football for decades. And it’s also the rivalry Stockholm vs. Malmö. I used to live in Malmö, and I now live in Stockholm, so I’ve seen and heard a lot of it…

If you want to follow the last ten matches of the currrent Allsvenskan season, I’d recommend a HBO Max subscription. It’s a bit pricey, but they do cover the league really well. You get a lot for the money (not just ALL the matches).

Ill check if its an option, when I tried Viaplay I ran into them blocking VPNs and TV4 wasnt usable without a Swedish credit card.

Though I probably will be okay just watching Malmös games for now :)

As you probably know, Malmö is usually one of the best teams in the league, but not this season. I think Hammarby or Mjällby (the latter is a team from a really tiny village in the south) are the only ones with a real chance to become champions.

Looks like they would have to make up 11 points in something like 12 games. That would a hell of a run.
Has Mjällby really only lost one game?

For Allsvenskan, what slots qualify you for European competitions? Top 3?

Yes, Mjällby has had an amazing season this year. It looks like they will reach a new point record. And they have already played Hammarby twice. Two wins. Without any expensive players, even though they will probably make a lot of money in the next transfer window…

There are three European slots in the league. I think Malmö will reach one of those.

Jag tror det är:
1:a Champions League-kval
2:a Europa League-kval
3:a samt vinnare i Svenska cupen: Conference League.

Jag är inte 100%. Blåvitt har liksom nästan åkt ur Allsvenskan de senaste två säsongerna så Europaspel har inte känts så aktuellt... (vilket är tragiskt med tanke på att IFK Göteborg helt seriöst hade som ambition att vinna CL 1995).
 
The weekends games of interest, I won't have time to watch everything so gonna pick and choose a bit.

Today: Vancouver FC vs Forge in the Canadian Premier League. Forge has not lost a game yet this season, Vancouver has struggled to win 3.

Tomorrow: Vancouver Whitecaps vs St Louis. They are second worst in the west, this is a team we should easily beat but you never know what happens. We often play down to the opponent and we may have a key defender out.

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Bournemouth. In normal times, a competitive match. This is not normal times for Wolves.

Wolfsburg vs Heidenheim. Heidenheim was in a relegation battle last season, so we SHOULD beat them thoroughly. The main question is how the new additions to the squad are shaking together. Gonna get up early and make omelettes with the wife and watch this one for sure, since its the season opener.

Sunday:
Vancouver Rise vs Ottawa Rapid. Should be a very even match. Rise needs to keep getting points if they are going to make play offs, but I think we are also on a decently hot streak.

And did I see it right that its Blåvitt vs Himmelsblått on Sunday as well?


(For a bit of footie education, why are there three Vancouver teams? The Whitecaps play in MLS, one of the three Canadian teams in the league, Vancouver FC, nicknamed the Eagles, play in the Canadian Premier League and Vancouver Rise is in the NSL, the pro womens league).

Blåvitt reser till Danmark för att spöa MFF och Spurs möter Man City borta. Två riktigt svettiga matcher. För motståndarlagen. Ser ut som 3 enkla poäng för IFK Göteborg och Tottenham Hotspurs!

Det störde mig naturligtvis något enormt när MFF gick förbi Blåvitt som mesta mästarna men som sagt, jag har lärt mig att leva med det. Typ som man lär sig leva med att bli flintis trött på kvällarna. Ett irritationsmoment helt klart ;)

To be honest I only hate other teams as a joke. I might sing "Alla hatar GAIS i Göteborg!" but I dont hate anyone (except for fascists of course).

"Vi är IFK å vi hatar AIK!"

Men utanför arenan är jag vän med alla :)

The brits get pretty serious about things.
The only teams I genuinely dislike are Houston in MLS and then anything run by Red Bull regardless of league or sport. If Microsoft sponsored a team, Id have to hate them of course :D
Now there are teams it feels better to get wins over. Whitecaps beating Miami twice in the CONCACAF Champions Cup was pretty amazing and I got wasted the night Mainz beat Bayern :)
